Dandelion Mural

My bedroom is still a hot mess.  I'm on the hunt for a dresser, the walls are bare and the bed is really just a mattress on the floor (on a budget, folks).  At least I took the time to paint the walls.  Midnight Gray is painted on two walls and on a third wall I used the Midnight Gray paint to create a dandelion mural.

Hipstamatic Print Inspiration

I took lots of photographs this summer with the hipstamatic iPhone app on my iPod touch.  It's a really fun way to capture moments in an artistic way (with limited effort).  This picture was taken somewhere along the road between Colorado and Wisconsin when I took a roadtrip with my love and my cousin in May.  Summer sunshine is one of my all time favorite things in the world so capturing it in such a way was very exciting.  For my living room palette I've decided to create an inspiration board reflective of this summer sunshine print: vibrant, colorful, warm and inviting.

I'm also excited to get a few of the prints from the trip printed and framed (that will come later).

Lovely Bedroom Palette

I'm going paint shopping tonight!  I want to make sure that each purchase fits soundly with my style statement and my personal decorating mantra.  I've been playing with paint colors all week and decided that it would be helpful to identify a mood, feel or palette for the room.  I love checking in with blogs like Simply Hue and Creature Comforts because they create palettes based on inspiring images.  I am am artist so I decided to find inspiration in art that reflects what I'm going for.  YES.  I love this.

For the bedroom, I decided to go with a drawing by one of my favorite contemporary artists who I follow regularly over at Igor + Andre.  He did this drawing as part of a series on love.  It's lovely, sweet, dreamy and has the perfect palette for my new bedroom.  I want light, airy, and fresh with the occassional pop of soft color.

Here's what I concocted based on his piece:

Bedroom Colors

I'm still playing with the Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer I came across the other day.  This time I'm thinking about bedroom paint options.  I want calm, cool and clean.

Option 1: Bathe Blue

Option 2:  Grandview (more green)

Option 3: Classic French Gray (my favorite so far).

I want to decorate the bedroom with stark white and small pops of color.  I'm also planning on following this DIY Tutorial for a dandelion mural! Because of the dandelion I'm leaning towards option 3 at the moment.  Very breezy, simple and beachy.  Love it.

Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer: Living Room & Kitchen

I've been playing with this free online program for about an hour now.  Sherwin-Williams lets you upload a picture of a room, use selection tools to label and identify walls, and then create a virtual make-over with different color palettes.

Here's a picture taken from the living room facing the kitchen/front door. I definitely want blue walls in the living room but I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with the kitchen/entrance area (please ignore that hideous wood panel in the center, I'll have to figure out what to do with that later).  Here are some options I was playing with...

Option 1:  Liquid Blue & Fun Yellow (very bold...and too much)

Option 2: Spa & Cucumber (getting closer...)

Option 3: Liquid Blue & Narcissus (almost there...)

I was pretty settled on something very similar to Option 3 because I like the clean, neutral feel of "Narcissus" and I think I like the placement of the neutral tone in contrast to the bright blue is nice.  I am still undecided on the brightness of the blue.  I don't want to go too bright but I also want it to be recognizable as blue.

Option 4: Tame Teal & Narcissus (my favorite so far...)

I am very open to feedback & suggestions so please leave those comments!

Paint.

I've been searching and searching for my paint colors and I keep coming back to the same soft blue palette.  I found this post  on House of Turquoise this morning and it only reaffirmed my thoughts....
